Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual lymphatic drainage is a special form of massage performed with light, effleurage-type movements. Its goals are:

  • • Activation of the entire lymphatic system by acting on healthy lymph nodes;
  • • Toning the walls of lymphatic vessels and activating their angiomotoric function;
  • • Promoting the transport of stagnant lymph in physiological directions;
  • • In case of insufficiency or absence of regional lymph nodes, rearranging the process toward healthy lymph nodes by creating a new collateral system;
  • • Reducing scar tissue and increasing permeability;
  • • Generally, a regulating effect on the human fluid organism.

The decongestive therapeutic complex includes 5 main components:

  • • Manual lymphatic drainage;
  • • Compression therapy;
  • • Movement therapy and special exercises;
  • • Proper skin care;
  • • Patient education.

Manual lymphatic drainage procedures are followed by compression bandaging with special elastic bandages or the use of medical compression knitwear, which ensures the maintenance of the results obtained during the procedure. At Therapie House, we use high-quality bandages from the German company Lohmann & Rauscher and medical compression hosiery from Ofa Bamberg for compression therapy.

In our medical center, a full complex of decongestive therapy is available for the following conditions:

  • • Phlebo-lipo-lymphedema;
  • • Cyclic-idiopathic syndrome;
  • • Rheumatic diseases;
